What Is Blephex?
If you suffer from dry, watery, burning, gritty or painful eyes the chances are you may have an eye lid condition called blepharitis. Over 50% of patients with dry eye symptoms have a eyelid condition that contributes to dry eyes. Blepharitis is inflammation of the eyelid, and is almost always present with dry eye symptoms. There are naturally forming bacteria in the margins of the eyelid and at the bottom of the eyelashes. When this bacteria becomes too prevalent, they cause a buildup of biofilm. The biofilm causes a toxic environment leading to exotoxins and demodex mites.
The good news is that with proper treatment by a dry eye doctor, you can get relief for your dry eyes. Our dry eye clinic in Midtown Manhattan offers a doctor led eyelid cleaning procedure called Blephex. This quick and painless procedure gently cleans the eyelids and lashes of bacteria buildup. When done regularly it is extremely effective at preventing the return of symptoms.

NYC Dry Eye Patients Talk About Blephex
The blephex treatment itself was very comfortable, I felt a tickling sensation. It was quite quick, maybe 2 min per lid. The lids feel great, very clean.
I would say the the results are quite amazing…..but I won’t say that because it has been just over a week and I have being using some antibiotic drops and steroid ointment at night. I have been told to use this for two weeks, then another steroid drop for 4 weeks after that. If after those 4 weeks there is longer term improvement, say another 3 months or so before I have to do it again-then we can start calling it amazing. I wouldn’t mind doing the treatment 2-3 times a year if I had to.
